Parents have been left scratching their heads over an 11+ maths exam question that is 'too challenging to figure out'. Many parents often find their kids' maths homework is tricky to work out, and with that in mind, social media user Wayne The Maths Tutor has decided quiz adults and parents after seeing how many struggled to work out one particular equation.
In his video, he said: "This is an 11+ question that even adults get wrong." The question simply asks you to solve: "70 - 30 ÷ 5". In the comments, people shared various answers with them ranging from 8 to 64. One user said: "And we're supposed to be the intelligent species on the planet." While another added: "Should have brackets."
A third person wrote: "Answer the question as it is asked therefore the answer is 8, If the answer is not 8, then the question is written incorrectly."

While one more added: "What does it matter as long as you get the correct answer."
Sharing the method they used to work out the answer, another user said: "Bidmas brackets indices division multiply addition as subtraction."
However, maths expert Wayne says most people tackle the question by subtracting 70 - 30, leaving them with 8. Then, he says many do 40 ÷ 5 and end up with 8 as an answer.
But he says this is incorrect.
Instead, the bidmas method would help you produce the correct answer, with this standing for brackets, indices/orders, division and multiplication (from left to right), and addition and subtraction (from left to right).
Therefore, you should perform the division first (30 ÷ 5 = 6), meaning the expression become 70 - 6.
Next, you perform the subtraction (70 - 6 = 64). Therefore, the correct answer is 64.
One user commented: "You always do either the multiplication or the division first. 30 divided by 5= 6 and 70 - 6 = 64."
While someone else confirmed: "30 divided by 5 first that’s 6 then subtract the 6 from the 70. Answer is 64."
One more user added: "5÷30=6 then you take away 6 from 70 =64."
While a final person said: "BODMAS - division first, 30\5 = 6 then 70 - 6 = 64."
However, this isn't the only children's maths question boggling minds as people have been struggling to work out an eight-year-old's homework task too.
In a desperate search for the answer, a social media user took to Reddit toask for help to work out the solution, admitting they've spent half and hour trying to figure it out.
They said: "Help me solve my son'sthird grade maths homework. What's the missing letter in this sequence? J, L, L, ___, N, R, P, U, R, X.
"I've spent half an hour trying to solve a problem meant for a seven year-old and I can't figure it out." Explaining their working, the parent shared how they followed the rules: "V SBYYBJRQ GUR EHYRF."
